Speaking and Listening
It is our aim for children to develop the necessary skills to use language confidently, appropriately and accurately to the best of their ability, and for them to speak clearly, fluently and with conviction. We use rhymes, stories, role play, drama and poetry to develop listening skills.
It is our aim for our children to write effectively using spelling, simple punctuation and syntax with confidence and accuracy and to meet or exceed the national literacy targets. We give our pupils frequent opportunities to write for a variety of purposes, and we encourage creativity and independence in writing. The children are taught to support themselves with dictionaries and phonic knowledge.
Children are taught to produce well formed, properly orientated letters. They are shown how to hold a pencil correctly and to use legible upper and lower case letters as they move towards joined writing.
