Larkfields Infant School is set in the heart of a quiet residential area, surrounded by well-maintained lawns and gardens. We have our own playground and there are extensive playing fields shared with the adjacent Junior School. Our outdoor learning provision consists of a well-equipped lower playground for the children in Foundation Stage 2 and the secure inner courtyard for children in Key Stage 1.
Inside, the school has several light and spacious general-purpose teaching areas, as well as specially equipped sections devoted to art and craft, ICT, creative play, and baking. Each class has its own ‘quiet corner‟, which is used for activities such as role play, discussion and story time.
In addition to these teaching areas, Larkfields Infants has a well-stocked library and a carpeted hall, which is used for P.E, music, drama and assemblies. We are also fortunate to have a separate dining area where children can enjoy either the delicious meals prepared on the premises, or their own packed lunches.
At Larkfields we possess a varied selection of ICT equipment, which is widely used in all areas of the curriculum. Each teaching area has its own Interactive Whiteboard, computers, access to the Internet and various school owned programs.
The organisation of classes varies each year, depending on the number of children in each year group and the number of teaching personnel.
School Session Times
The normal session times are 8.45am to 12 noon and 1.10pm to 3.30pm.
The time spent on teaching in the normal school week, including R.E. but excluding daily acts of worship, registration and breaks (including lunch) is 22.5 hours.
School Assembly Times
Monday to Thursday, school assembly times are 11.30am until 11.50am and Friday is from 2.50pm until 3.20pm.
Arriving at School and Going Home
Coming into school the children use their own side doors which are opened at 8.45am. These doors are closed at 8.50am, entrance is then by the main door. Children attending Kids Club for the before school session are escorted into school by Kids Club Staff.
At 3.30pm the children leave by the door through which they enter each morning, except for the children in Woodpeckers, who leave by the front door to ease congestion on the path by Kingfishers. Older children leave by the same door as younger siblings. Children going to the Kids Club gather in the library before being taken to the club.
